YOU CAN MAKE IT

Introduction

I have been traveling this last seven years and I have done nothing but witness about the power of God. I haven't done any more rock'n'roll concerts, heavy metal concerts. There hasn't been anybody killed in any of my arenas or outreaches. I haven't lost anybody on the road. During one of my last heavy metal tours, my bass player and my drummer were murdered. And that was after I gave my heart to the Lord. I didn't belong out there.

The Word of the Lord says, You were once a child of darkness, but now you are a child of the light. Walk ye therefore as a child of light.

Sometimes it can be difficult to walk away from money and from things that the world will try to entice you with. You young people are going to be hit with everything. You're going to be tempted with literally everything. It is coming down to the point, and that point is actually here, that you are not going to make it without Jesus.

I fought God, young people. I didn't want to serve the Lord. I said, 'I don't like the whole Christian scene.' I was very jaded in my thoughts, because I really had not been a part of it. So I judged things. And then when I went into churches, people would sort of mock me and call me names. Different things were happenin' back then - that was back in the early eighties. And I fought it. I went out and did more rock'n'roll tours. And I told you the result of that. Then I stepped out and said, 'I'm going to serve you, Lord.' I thought that the christians that were in leadership were all going to be excited. But I found out that there was more opposition to me taking a stand for the Lord inside the religious circles then there was outside the religious circles. The Satanists didn't come against me as hard as the religious people did. And there is a stronghold in this nation that you young people are going to rise above. And that stronghold is religion, and doctrine, and man's religion that has been seeking to stop the move of God that God has called on this generation. And there are other oppositions as well. But I can tell you right now that religion - we don't need man's religion in America. We need the move of the Holy Ghost. How many know that?

Listen to this young people. The Word of the Lord says in II Chronicles 30:7 - And be ye not like your fathers. (Now we are speaking about a generation. I'm not talking about literally your father, for instance. It could be, but not necessarily.) And not like your brethren which trespassed against the Lord God of their fathers. Who therefore gave them up to desolation as you see.

Look around you. What do you see? Look at what my generation has brought to you. Look at what the heritage is that we have given you. My generation has welcomed with open arms and literally kissed on the lips Satanism in America, if you will. The occult is now on national television every night. And you can call in on a 900 or 800 number and find out about the stars. The Word of God says, Why seek the living among the dead? We have given you crack cocaine. We've taken prayer out of the schools. And now you have guns; you have murder; you have rapes in your schools. What have we wrought?

Stiff Necked

The Word of God says, Now be ye not stiff necked as your fathers were.

That whole hippie generation that said, 'Oh, let's expand our minds. Let's check out Buddhism. Let's check out Mohammed. Let's check out this, let's check out that. All paths lead to the same place.' And yet the Word of God says there is only one Savior. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father but through Me.

Now be ye not stiff necked as your fathers. But yield yourselves unto the Lord and enter into His sanctuary. Worship the Lord. Which He has sanctified forever. And serve the Lord your God that the fierceness of His wrath may turn away from you.

This is an awesome time for you young people. Now I might sound like a fatalist. I might sound like a pessimist, I'm not. But I firmly believe that the mantle is passing to you young people. And that a move of God, the empowerment of the Holy Ghost, is about to come upon you young people. Those of you who are radical, who are ready to stand up and be counted. One of the things that I spit at when I've been out on the road this last seven years is that religious spirit of people that say, 'We are going to build our kingdoms. We are going to enter into our own sanctuaries. And thank God we are not like those out there that are druggers, or prostitutes, or those that have been molested, or those that have been broken'.

One of the great prayers I've ever heard, young people, was when I was in a maximum security prison in Texas. Newsweek Magazine said it was the worst prison in the United States of America. There are more men in there per capita for murder than any other prison apparently in the United States according to Newsweek. As we did an outreach a man came forwarded. This man stood at the platform. They had built the stage up so high that the men could not get to the stage. They could not even jump and touch the floor of the stage because the wardens didn't want anybody to be able to get to them as they were addressing the men. So I'm standing way up high above the men. And this man came forward. And he stretched his hands up. And amongst all the men that came forward, the hundreds and hundreds of men that had come forward. This prayer rose above all the men. He stretched his hands out and began to pray a prayer that I believe touched the heart of God.

He said, 'Oh God. I know who I am.' He began to sob. 'I'm a killer. I'm a murderer. I don't deserve nothing from you. I don't even deserve for you to hear my prayer. But, Oh God, please hear my prayer. I ain't prayin' for me. I'm prayin' for my boys. Oh God, don't let my boys grow up to be like me, a killer.' And he wept and he cried. And I cried. And I heard the prayers of this man. This was a man who had ruined his life. And as he prayed, he also spoke that his wife had divorced him. That she had taken his children. That he is locked in prison for the rest of his life. He even cried out and said, 'God, I can't touch my kids. I can't tuck them in at night. I can't kiss my kids. I will never see my boys again.' But he said, 'Oh God, have mercy on my boys. Don't let them grow up to be like me, a killer.'

Generation X

There is hope for your generation. And the hope of your generation is Jesus! Jesus is your answer. Jesus is your hope. Right here I have a letter from a kid. I didn't necessarily mean to talk all about prisons here tonight. But I was called to go up to Canada the week before Christmas to be involved in an outreach that was going to feed two thousand people up there in the convention center. I had been up there several months before and had spoken to the youth prison. We had some 300 men in that prison. These guys were rough. It was the first time I have ever been shouted down. When I stood up and tried to speak, they shouted me down. The way I finally got their attention was I said, 'How many of you are Christians?' And about nine of them raised their hands. This one guy was calling me names in the front. And I said, 'Those of you who are Christians, pray for me right now that I don't beat this guy up right here.' God honored that prayer. :)

I had been told that there were seventeen to twenty boys in a group called S.H.O.C.A.P.S. - serious habitual offenders caps. I don't know what caps stands for. But what they have in Canada is what is equivalent to a FBI list with the youth. And these are the seventeen worst boys in the country. When they are sent to ShoCaps they spend the first thirty days in a 8x10 room with a steel toilet, no mirror, a steel bed, no radio, no television, no books - for thirty days. Then they are allowed to get out with the rest of the guys. They're still in lock down most of the day.

I arranged to go into ShoCaps before I went up to Canada. These seventeen boys - I call them boys because I am old enough to be their father. I had no microphone, no singing, no music, no nothin'! But I went in and I started talkin' to them. The warden had given me an hour. I began to share with these boys about vision. About how you have to have a vision of who you are. Who you are in Christ. Then I shared about do's and don't's. Once you have that vision and that dream, there are things that you can do and things that you can not do if you are going to accomplish your goals. I asked them, 'How many of you do not want to be successful?' And none of them raised their hand. I said, 'Good, because you can meet that goal by doing nothing.' And then I talked to them about getting tough. You got to get tough. And these kids thought they were tough. But I said,'You have to get tough not to be dissuaded or moved to the side. Or not to be overwhelmed or over run by the generation, the stiff necked generation, that has gone before you. That say it is OK to smoke dope and be President of the United States.'

I'm not trying to crack on the President, but this is what we have. We have a guy like me in the Presidency. Except, atleast I repented, and I also admitted I inhaled. :)

And I shared with these boys, 'Get tough. Don't let anybody tear you away from what God has called you to do. Last but not least, is the knowledge of God. The beginning of wisdom is the knowledge of God. Study your Bible.'

And I knew that several of those boys in there had committed murders. One of the boys had murdered his girl friend because she had broken up with him. And there was one kid in there named M---. He is seventeen years old. Quite frankly, I was shocked to find out that he was number one on the most wanted list in the entire nation of Canada. He was running a crack cocaine ring by the age of fifteen. And last October two police officers cut him off on a highway chase. They thought that he was going to give up because he had hit a wall. So the police officers got out of their cars. They lowered their guns on him and told him to get out. You know what he did? He ran over them. Both police officers survived. But how many know - the police don't like that? He was number one on the most wanted list when they finally caught up with him.

There he sat just to my left. And I was lookin' at this guy. And you young sisters out there, if you saw him and didn't know that he had tried to kill those two police officers and what his background was - he is tall, a lot taller than me, his hair is cut real nice on the sides, kinda wavy on top, real good looking guy - if you young sisters didn't know what he had done, you would look at him and go, 'Oh, isn't he cute.' :)

And all those young men were staring at me. Some of them were just sitting back. But I saw M---, sitting there, just looking at every thing I said. I saw him staring at me. And every time I moved, I saw him watching. And I knew the power of God was moving on those young men. I knew the power of God was moving on that kid. And I said to those young men, 'You're going to make it. Because Jesus is going to make it for you.'

You see, I grew up in juvenile hall. I don't have the best testimony you can have. Which is I gave my heart to the Lord when I was young. I've been tempted. People have come up to me from every direction. But I have never turned away from God. And I'm going to serve Him all the days of my life. That's the best testimony you can have. I know about making it. I was watching a program with an actress yesterday for a couple of minutes. They were talking about how incredible it was that she had been on the cover of Time Magazine. I've been on the cover of Time Magazine. People have said if I could only make money. I bought my first house, a $3,000,000 home when I was twenty/twenty-one years old, and paid it off. I went out and did rock'n'roll, smoked angel dust, had panic attacks, freaked out in my mind for eight years. Until I gave my life to the Lord and I got set free and delivered. How many know, Whom the Son sets free, is free indeed.?

And I went to the Lord when I started witnessing. People were calling me names. And I said, 'Lord, I can't make it. I'm not going to make it.' The Lord totally freaked me out because He said, 'You're right. You can't make it. But I can. So you stick to me.' He's carried me through all of it. He has carried me through the people walking up to my face, smiling with that religious spirit. And saying, 'Isn't it wonderful to have a hippie here among us tonight.' When I know in my old stone heart, I would like to have hit them so hard it would have killed their relatives. :) And just give it up.

So I said to M--- and the boys, 'You can make it.' I knew that they could make it with Jesus. And I know that you are going to shake this nation through the power of the Almighty God.

M--- was ready to go to trial. I prayed for him. I wound up going to one of the boys who was in lock down. As I was walking out, M--- was in his cell next to him. He said, 'Come here and talk to me for a minute.' I looked at the jailer, opening and locking the doors. He said OK. So I went in and I saw M---. The door automatically rolled open. And I walked into M---'s place. And M--- looked at me. And he started to cry. He said, 'Why did you say that to me?' I said, 'What?' He said, 'Why did you say I can make it?' I said, 'Because you are going to make it. If you put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. You are going to make it.'

I'm not advocating trying to run over police officers. I happen to be a spokesperson for Cops For Christ. I believe the Word of God says we are to submit to the authorities in God's place to watch over us. But I also know that God is a God who cuts through the brass of iron according to Psalm 107. When we cry to the Lord, He will hear our cry.

And I told M---, 'You're going to make it'. And he cried. And he said, 'Nobody has ever told me that I could make it. My father died of a drug overdose. My mother is on drugs. I started getting busted for violent crimes at 12/13 years of age. And after I got busted for selling crack I was in ShoCaps for a while. Then they let me back out. I would try to date a decent girl. The police would come to her house as soon as they found out I was dating a nice girl. And they would warn her parents.' I'm sure the police had their reasons. They obviously are trying to protect people. 'But when I would go and apply for a job and try to get out of drugs. The police would show up and say, 'This guy is a member of ShoCaps.' Every where I went people hated me. Ever since I tried to kill those two cops, I've been in here. Every cop that comes in here looks around, and if no one is watching they smack me upside my head. And they call me punk. They say I'm no good. They say they're going to fry me. They say I'm going to get wiped or I'm going to get twenty-five years or whatever. They're trying to put me away for crack and attempted murder of two police officers. And this and that. And you come in here and say, I'm going to make it.' Well, I got a letter from him. Guess what? His assualts were overturned on a technicality. He wrote me a letter and said he is serving the Lord Jesus Christ. We serve an awesome God.

Exhortation

Be not like your fathers. Be not like that generation or like your brethren which trespassed against the Lord God of their fathers. Who therefore gave them up to desolation as ye see. (All around you young people.) Now be ye not stiff necked as your fathers were but yield yourselves unto the Lord. And enter into His sanctuary. Worship the Lord. Which he has sanctified forever. And serve the Lord your God that the fierceness of His wrath may turn away from you.

Without a vision the people perish; without a people the vision perishes. You have a destiny. You will come to your destination. You are about to find and seize your calling. The young lions do lack and go hungry; but, those that wait on the Lord shall want of no good thing.' You young lions are about to rise up in this nation. And you are going to take it by force. And that force is from the Spirit to tear down strongholds. Praise the Lord!

The world would seek to tell you that you are a statistic. That you just happened by chance to get past abortion, to get past this, to get past that. You serve an awesome God. And I believe that you are going to be the generation that is going to usher in the mighty move of God.

Let Your awesome will be done in the lives of each and every believer, every follower of You. In Jesus name. You're going to make it. I tell you like I told M---, 'You're going to make it!'

My Deepest Love,
Jeff
