STUDENTS 4 CHRIST, WHAT IS IT?

Jeff: Hi, I'm Jeff Fenholt. Welcome to Standin' On The Rock. Praise God. I've been set free out of all the bondage. How about you? You been set free? He who the Son sets free, is free indeed. Today, I have Mike Berry on the show with me. Co-founder and director of Students 4 Christ. We've been workin' on this project, now, for over a year. And we're seein' student-initiated Bible study clubs bein' raised up all across the United States of America. Praise God.

The Word of God says in Exodus 20:5, God says, I am a jealous God, visiting the sins of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of those who hate me. But then in verse 6 of Exodus 20, God says, And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love Me, and keep My commandments. The Word of God says in Deuteronomy 5:10, again He reiterates, And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love Me, and keep My commandments. In Deuteronomy 7:9, it says, Know, therefore, that the Lord thy God, He is God; the faithful God which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love Him; and keep His commandments unto a thousand generations. Young people, through the blood of Jesus, you are blessed of God. If you're fortunate enough to have parents or a parent or an adult guardian who loves you and love God, you're truly blessed. But even if you haven't been raised up in a Christian home, by the blood of Jesus, you have power to overcome the enemy and to break down any afflictions; any assault that would come against you or your loved ones. You are more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus.

I'm gonna do Facts Are Facts. I believe in the Word of God. How about you? Whew! Praise the Lord Jesus. Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Hello, Mike Berry. Good to see you, good to have you here.

Mike: Good to see you, Jeff. Good to be here.

Jeff: Director and co-founder of Students 4 Christ. What is that?

Mike: It's a student-initiated Spirit-filled Bible club for the public school system. Also, it's a chaplaincy program for youth pastors that are coming into, want to get into, public schools and work with their kids and help evangelize public schools. So, it's a great program. And it was started right out of Washington For Jesus by none other than Jeff Fenholt and myself.

Jeff: Well, I got a vision for the Washington For Jesus rally; and then, you came to me with a vision of student-initiated Bible study clubs and also, chaplaincy program into the schools. You and I didn't quite know what to think of the chaplaincy thing, did we? We just thought it might be a little difficult.

Mike: No. Initially, I've never heard that you can actually get a youth pastor into the public school. But, as we began to research the law, what the law says is that, 'The Bible club requires an advisor.' [Jeff: Right.] So, a kid can't just have a club without an advisor. And so the real strange thing is, is that there was a memorandum sent by the Clinton administration down to all the public schools by the Secretary of Education and the Attorney General to every administrator, saying that Bible clubs were allowed but they had to have an advisor. But...

Jeff: Who did they suggest as the advisor?

Mike: Well, they said it couldn't be a teacher. [Jeff: Yeah.] A teacher can be an advisor to a chess club or a ski club or any non-curricular club; but, it's not allowed because they're employees of the state, the federal government. And so, they can't be advisors. So, the question went off in my head, 'Well, how does this Bible club have an advisor if they're not allowed teachers?' And then I contacted a man, whose name is Herb Titus, who is the Dean of Regent University for many years Law school. [Jeff: Who is now workin' with us on this.] He had written, six years ago, a little booklet, that he gave to D. James Kennedy, on the establishment of chaplains for public high schools.

Jeff: I've read the book.

Mike: And I got a hold of that thing, and just turned on, sent it to you; and then called him on the phone. And we hired him to help us. And basically, we found out that the advisor can be a youth pastor or a pastor, as long as they have an ecclesiastical endorsement. So, we went to military endorsing agencies and asked for their help. And so now, we can take any youth pastor and pastor, if they're a part of a local club, youth outreach into the public schools, and we can get them endorsed so they can be an advisor to the clubs.

Jeff: How do they go about doin' that?

Mike: Well, they have to write us. Contact us through the Web [Students 4 Christ] to get an application. You know, if it wasn't for TBN, [Jeff: They've put off a smoke machine about ten minutes ago.] I saw it. [Jeff: It's wackin' me, man, before this show. It's unbelievable.] Well, TBN's been very, very helpful, you know Washington For Jesus. And if it weren't for them, we probably wouldn't have had all those kids out there on that mall. But, there's just some wonderful things that God is also doing in other quarters that have opened the door for us. For instance, I don't know if you knew this, Jeff, but there is a Rabbi, who's up in Chicago, who was given $24,000,000 grant by a major agency to educate school officials on allowing Bible clubs and religious activities in public schools.

Jeff: I've heard about it. Yes.

Mike: Then, there's a, I don't know, but it's been going on for years, where the Mormans in Utah, Nevada, and other places, have been doing this thing called 'release time', where kids can actually go off the campus and get religious instruction and come back. [Jeff: Wow.] And that's why we need youth groups and local churches to partner with Students 4 Christ, because we can actually help kids, win kids to Christ, and then disciple them through local churches.

Jeff: It's absolutely wonderful. You know, I've been seein' in the schools a hunger for the gospel. Praise God.
