TALKIN' TO STUDENTS

Jeff: Today we're talkin' to students, and about students. We're talkin' about your destiny that God has for your life, the callin' that God has placed upon you. You have a destiny in Christ Jesus. We've been hearin' through the media about the attack that's goin' on in the schools, the attack that's comin' against our young people. But I want you to know, young person, that God says, When satan comes in like a flood, I will raise up a standard against him. Greater is Jesus that is in you, you young believers, than the devil that's in the world, who is trying to kill, steal, and destroy. Jesus has come to give you life and life abundantly. Praise God. I have a friend of mine on the air with me today, Mike Berry, who is co-founder of Students 4 Christ, which is raisin' up student-initiated Bible study clubs in every high school in the United States of America. We believe that this will be accomplished in the near future. Praise God. I'm gonna sing a song called Be Thou My Vision [757k .wav file, 35 sec]. Praise God.

Jeff: Oh, Lord God. How've you been? Fillin' real good. How're you doin'? I'm doin' good, doin' good. And a lot of good stuff's happenin' with 'Students' out there.

Mike: Yeah. And we need an answer in the country right now. I was riding in on a plane this morning and just read in the headlines, about two or three pages back, it spoke about eleven year olds, five eleven year olds, just raping a seven year old girl.

Jeff: What is this you read about?

Mike: This was just this morning I read this, coming into here.

Jeff: Oh, Lord God. You know what is so sick about that? Was I almost said, 'Which one as that?' I mean, because there was just one a week ago of a little seven year old girl, excuse me, an eleven year old girl who was murdered by a seven and eight year old boys.

Mike: Yeah, for a bicycle. But we've got right now, we've been hearing the statistics of the schools. We've got, probably, five or six shootings, now, where kids have been shooting. And, you know, God gave us, literally, two and a half, three years, ago when we were doing Washington For Jesus, God gave us the vision to get into the public schools.

Jeff: You know what was so strange about that, with Washington For Jesus? That was a vision that happened here at TBN in Dallas. [Mike: Absolutely. Right.] And I was opening the International Production Center and as I was on camera, I began to speak. And the Word of God began to flow. And then I began to prophesy. And I prophesied that there would be a million teenagers gather in the nation's capital to proclaim Him as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. And that they would begin to, not begin, but demand their rights as believers. I have seen visions beyond that, Mike, of schools literally walkin' out. Entire cities, schools spillin' into the streets at a certain time, like 12 noon or 9 am or whatever. But a time, when all the schools in the city...they just get up, walk out of their classes, and all march to city hall. And stand in front of city hall and begin to speak out as to who they are in Christ Jesus.

Mike: A lot of people think that kind of a vision is crazy. Proverbs 29: 18 says, Without a prophetic vision the people are put to confusion and they run wild. That's what the Amplified says, and a few other translations add that 'run wild.' We've got a whole society running wild now, kids running wild. And the reason is because the church needs a vision.

Jeff: Right. Without a vision the people perish.

Mike: That's right. The church needs to provide a vision. Washington For Jesus was birthed in your heart while you were standing on TBN's steps. What's amazing, as your friend and my friend, John Jimenez, who was the originator of Washington For Jesus [Jeff: Yes.]. I was down in Australia doing a youth rally, where 1200 kids within five minutes flat from the time I got on the platform [no exaggeration] where hit with the power of God and fell to the floors. And I just wept and cried as they were shaking and rolling on the floors. I've never seen anything like this. And God spoke to me while I was on my face. He said, 'I want you to go back. And I want you to become a part of Washington For Jesus. And I want you to go and organize the youth rally.' And then, sovereignly, God put you and I together. And everybody laughed at us. Everybody said, 'Ah, this couldn't be done.' You know? They said, 'There's no way, maybe 15,000.' Because the original youth rally of 1980 had 15,000, '88 they had 30,000. But this vision of 1,000,000 kids was out to lunch. That's what we were hearing from some quarters. But, what a miracle that was that night, when you and I stood on that platform. You where on one part of the platform; I was on another. [Jeff: In the rain] Yep, and [Jeff: In the rain.] in the rain. And what an amazing sight. At one point Eastman Curtis got up and gave an altar call, and 1,000's of kids just got saved. [Jeff: Yeah, Eastman, he's somethin' else. He's great.] He was awesome. While we were doing that, I sat there and saw a hunger in a generation. And the church in America and around the world needs to get a vision for this generation.

Jeff: And on that Monday night, which was a school night, April 29, 1996, the weather was, it was rainin'. And they had been sayin' on The Weather Channel and CNN and all the other news reports that spoke nationally, for four days prior to the event they had been sayin', 'Thunderstorms, severe thunderstorms for Washington, D. C. that day.' And with all of this, supposedly stacked against students comin' to a rally, the park police gave us an official number of [Mike: 500,000] 500,000 young people.

Mike: Now this is the same group that told the group that was just prior to us, they only had 400,000. [Jeff: Right] They always go conservative. [Jeff: Right.] So, we had 500, 000 kids.

Jeff: And it was an amazing event to see all these young people gather to praise the Lord. At night, at 8:00 pm, that's when the massive crowd came out. 'Cause some people drove after school, leavin', like 3:30, and drove three, four, five hours to get there.

Mike: I walked that mall and there were kids from Texas, California, they were from all over the country. And, I've never seen anything like it my entire life. There were kids that sat in sections, with their youth pastors. If I needed help I'd go over; and they'd say, 'Ask our youth pastor'. And the whole group would come help me. It was awesome.

Jeff: And TBN came out and filmed that. And we praise God for Paul, his involvement [Mike: Absolutely.] in this, and for him givin' the definitive word. 'Go to Washington, D. C. and film this for us.' Because we have this on tape. What's so amazing was, the crowd went all the way from the Capitol steps all the way down to 7th. Street. And that's how the park police determined the numbers. [Mike: Yeah, they measure by blocks.] And, yet, I guess...maybe I'm castin' disparations, but one of the big news, 24 hour news companies or whatever, they came out at 11 am, an hour before we started [Mike: That's right.] filmed patches of crowds and then reported for 24 hours that there had been 30,000 or 50,000. They never stayed with the flow. And they just reported it. I praise God for TBN to be there. And not just so that one can put a feather in one's cap, and say, 'Look at what, DUH, we did.' But this is important because we want you, young people, who are out there to know that there are millions and millions of young people just like you, who love God. Just like you, who have been, possibly, called names by peers or possibly called 'goody-goody' or 'the Christian' in a derogatory sense. But you're also the ones who are standin' up now and sayin', 'Yes, I am a Christian. And I praise God that I'm saved and washed in the blood. And I'm gonna go on and serve my God. And, if you were smart, you would serve God as well.'

Mike: Well, they need a vision. And, young people can take their high school for Christ. [Jeff: Amen.] When I was in high school I led 150 kids, that were my peers, to Christ in my last year of high school, and the year after I was out. I just spoke to a young man back in Bowie Maryland, just outside of Washington, D. C., he has led 500 kids to Christ on his high school campus. And he's got clubs going; he's got a thing called 'a mofest' which is an all day event. He gets probably 3 to 5000 kids out for this event. He is taking his high school. Well, it was out of the spirit of Washington For Jesus that we wanted to share a vision. The vision is for any young person just to go and start a Bible club. I mean, it allows you to do it. You can go right in; you can ask for a room, a meeting space; and start a club. But not a club just for kids to get together and just pray. It's evangelize the school. And you've got the right, according to the law, The Equal Access Law of 1984, [Jeff: Absolutely.] to distribute literature, t-shirts, Jeff Fenholt Ministries' t-shirts :) [Jeff: Oh, Lord.]; but Students 4 Christ is a vehicle that we don't own. It's a vehicle for the kids.

Jeff: And if they get in touch with us through the Internet, or contact us through TBN network, or I'm not sure if they're puttin' an address up, we will make sure that they get the information that they need to help start this Bible study club in their school. And we will help to support them in their effort to do this. I'm gonna tell you the truth. I'm extremely encouraged about what I see happenin' with young people. I'm not discouraged about the adults; but, I would like to just flat out strangle about 90% of the body of Christ, when it comes to outreach for youth. You'd just like to get a hold of people and say, strangle is a bit of a heavy word, but how about 'Wake Up.' How about, 'Hey! Wake Up, here.' You know?

Mike: Well, we've had thirty years. And they'll forget. We've had thirty years of indoctrination from the media that told us that the public school is off limits. [Jeff: Right.] And they've been lying to us since 1984, telling us we didn't have any right into the public school.

Jeff: But the students have a right into the public school system.

Mike: That's amazing, all the students have a right, but so do adults. Now, let me just share with you. Every Bible club has to have an advisor.

Jeff: Absolutely, but it has to come in through the club.

Mike: That's right. But 10,000 clubs, right now, have teachers as advisors. According to the law, that's illegal. And they're not our clubs, those are other peoples clubs. We have found a way where we can take any youth pastor, in America, you're a youth pastor, and get him an ecclesiastical endorsement through a military endorsing agency. And get him to be appointed to be the chaplain of the club. And work with him to evangelize the public school. That's pretty awesome.

Jeff: So now, again, we can tell youth pastors and pastors that they can contact us and we will help to put them in touch with how [Mike: To get into the school system.] to get into the school system themselves. And this is very solid ground.

Mike: Absolutely. And it's not a para-church ministry we're starting; it's local church ministry. So that pastors and youth pastors have ownership of the vision into the public schools. They are there working along with the rest of the community, touching these kids. We've even found a new way... that, our curriculum is designed to help the school. And it's pretty exciting, because we're showing how the principles of God are not against science and math; but, God actually is involved in education. [Jeff: Yes.] So, they can contact us through the Internet, or through TBN, and through you're ministry and we can give all the hands-on materials.

Jeff: That's good. Well, when I was talkin' earlier about the adults, it seems like, there seems to be, like, an apathy when it comes to outreach. When it comes to goin' out and reachin' other people's kids. But, we have got to not just implode as the body of Christ. We literally need to explode and bring it out to the schools and to young people who are under attack. We're to be the salt of the earth.

Mike: Every revival in history didn't start with old people. It didn't start with middle age people. It started with young people. The young people were the key to revival. And if a church doesn't invest in reaching their youth that they've currently got; the church doesn't take an aggressive approach towards touching this generation; there's going to be a generation lost. Only 4% of them, Jeff, are in church today. That means 96% of the future leaders of America; 96% of the educators of America; 96% of all the people that are going to take the place of the current leadership, are unchurched.

Jeff: Well, let me tell you somethin', Mike. Maybe you can explain this to me, but like in three weeks I'm goin' to Sweden. People are very excited about this. I did one newsletter a year ago. And in that newsletter I said, I'm goin' to youth prisons; I'm goin' to Europe; I'm doin' concerts. If you want to get our tapes or whatever, people responded incredibly well, when I just said, you know, help us to do what God has called us to do. Then, I turned around and we sent out a newsletter for Students 4 Christ. And I said, 'We are goin' to start Bible study clubs and continue these.' And we've been doin' this for a year [1997]. We already have it set up in 30 states, 15 that are goin' well, and 15 more that are comin' on-line. And yet, when I went out to the people and said, 'Respond to help the kids. We are not takin' any of this for ministry money or anythin'. This is goin' right into the kids, right into the schools.' We got almost no response from the body of Christ.

Mike: Isn't that what the Bible says? It says pray for laborers. Because there are very few laborers, people who are willing to become a part of doing something. Talk is cheap. When we did Washington For Jesus there were a lot of talkers. But, when you get down in the trenches, and you work in the trenches, it's a day to day battle. I mean, this is warfare. And this nation is not goin' to be taken by all of our giftings or pezzaz or anything. It's going to be an awesome move of God where we invest ourselves.

Jeff: Our kids are worth it. Mike, I want you to pray and just look into that camera, right there, and pray. I'm gonna make my way over to the music set and hope my voice has 'woken' up. God bless you.

Mike: Lord Jesus, we thank you for every young person, every youth pastor in America. We pray that every city, every church would be visited with a fresh revival. And I thank you, Lord, right now for touching this generation, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Jeff: Praise the Lord God. This is called Old Rugged Cross [755k .wav file, 35 sec]. Young people, you need to keep goin'. Go with God, He loves you. Praise God. Thanks, Mike. Praise the Lord God. You know if you want to write to us, you can get in touch with us here at TBN. If you want to be a part of Students 4 Christ; if you want to help raise up Bible study clubs in your school; if you want to be a chaplain, if you're a pastor out there, a youth pastor, or a senior pastor, and you want to be involved in reachin' the school in your community, you can get in touch with us, Students 4 Christ and contact TBN to do that. And we'll see to it that we get you the information needed to reach your community. Father, we lift up the youth of this nation. And I pray, Lord, your grace, your mercy, and your protection upon our kids. You tell us to repent, Father, and to be baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost for the promise is unto you and unto your children, in Jesus' Holy name, we receive this, Amen.

My Deepest Love,
Jeff
