TOUCHIN' BASE #1

With Craig Goldy And Rudy Sarzo

Jeff: Jeremiah 29, verse 11 through 13, For I know the thoughts that I think toward thee, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon Me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will harken unto you. And ye shall seek Me, and find Me, when ye shall search for Me with all your heart. The Word of God is telling us here, basically it's saying; you know, when we're still holding back, you're really not gonna find the Lord. We're not goin' to find God, when we've got our own agenda, our own situation. We have to really seek him...It says, Seek Me with all your heart, and you'll find me.

First of all, I'd like to say, I'd like to welcome Rudy Sarzo here. Rudy. You guys know him from Ozzie Osbourne's band, Quiet Riot, from White Snake and uh, we, it's wild here, because ....We all had a band together. And then the band kind of, we all kinda went in different ways. And it's good to have you back.

Rudy: It's good to be back.

Jeff: God Bless you. Isn't it great? And Goldy, and Rudy, and me...and you know who we're missing? Tommy! [Chuckling, laughing from Goldy] Tommy [Aldridge] should be sitting right here.

Rudy: I hear things are going good with Tommy.

Jeff: Good, good. Um, you know, one of the things that really needed... like this past week, I was down in Texas, and I went to this unit, the prison maximum security unit. And, they gave me a room, I don't know how many the room held - 300, 600, whatever. But the room packed out, in the middle of the day. And the guys were allowed to take a one hour break to go relax, or they go to their rooms. And the guys, they not only came out; but, they had to turn people away, unfortunately. Because not everybody could get in the room. But, what was really neat is, people know if you love them or not. They can tell if you care about them or not; and if especially when you get into, like, a prison situation - they rock and roll. [Laughter from Rudy] I'm tellin' you, they rock and roll. :) You get with people ... same thing with bangers, man, they can tell if people are genuine with them or not; but, especially in prison. It means so much to people to see you lookin' in their face, and talkin' to them, and just say something. And when I ask about if they would give their hearts to the Lord, every guy in there had either already given their heart to the Lord, or was dedicating. But I believe that when your in prison, man, you're gonna seek Him with all your heart. That's what they call, your know, their jail cell. You're worried about whether you're going to get stabbed, or all these crazy things going on in prison; so, you miss your loved ones; you miss your wife, if your married; your mom, all this. And so, they seek God with all their hearts, the one's that really do, those guys in prison. Like there's guys in all walks of society that will not turn on. They don't ever want to turn on. They don't want to hear about God; they don't want to hear about anything spiritual. And, you know, quite frankly I think it's a waste, it's just a waste of a life. A waste.

Goldy: I don't think I have ever met a musician, and not all musicians have found Jesus as Lord and Savior; but, I don't think I've ever met a musician, that I would call anointed; and somebody that's like got your talent; or talented people that are really doing serious stuff out there; that don't know about supernatural things, or don't know about that there is a God. I know most people, that I come across, it's very hard for me to imagine that the God, that they can't see right in front of their face, that there's concrete evidence that He's bailed them out of a problem, that they can see quite well.

Jeff: That's true.

Goldy: It's hard for them to imagine that, but unseen is so much real that the realm that they can see. And I know that alot of times there's no evidence that giving your heart to the Lord is going to give you the kind of life, that we and you've been saying, that God can give. But a lot of time, people will do stuff without evidence. We will starve ourselves, and workout real hard, and try to lose weight without any evidence that it's doing any good for sometimes years; because somebody has said it's worked for me. And a lot of times it's not necessarily from the faith as it the will.

Jeff: Well the Bible says, The promise comes by faith. It says in Romans 4:16, Therefore, the promise comes by faith. And then it says in Romans 5:1, Since we have been justified to faith, we have peace with God, our Lord Jesus Christ. I get a bunch of notes. I was on an airplane.... You fly alot, you're all over the place. You're in South America, Central America, and uh, you're from originally Cuba.

Rudy: Yeah, I was born in Cuba, and came here in 1961. I am A-a-mer-i-can...

Jeff: You're an American. :) A long-haired, red-necked, Cuban.

Rudy: Yeah, there you go. [Laughing] :)

Jeff: Base playin', heavy metal rock. Man, we can put all kind of names on it. What is you're full name.

Rudy: My Christian name is Rudolfo Maximiliano Sarzo Lavielle Grande Ruiz Payret Chaumont.

Jeff: Do it again, what is it?

Rudy: Rudolfo Maximiliano Sarzo Lavielle Grande Ruiz Payret Chaumont. And you know I've never forgotten it.

Jeff: Do it again, what is it?

Rudy: [Repeats his name again]......... [Goldy is laughing in the background.]

Jeff: That's amazing. :) It's like speaking in tongues. What, is that all family names or....

Rudy: Yeah, you know, traditional European.

Jeff: Goin' back, yeah, yeah.. What a trip...I've never met your parents. But I always wanted to meet your parents.

Rudy: Next time you go to Miami Beach...

Jeff: I sure will, yeah definitely. I've talked with them on the phone....They're good people. Yeah, they raised you good, didn't they?

Rudy: Yeah, they did. There's nothing like being brought up by a good Catholic couple.

Jeff: I mean, yeah, they took you to church and Mass.

Rudy: Yeah, yeah. Well, my mom said, she really believed that you go to church every Sunday. But before you leave the house, she'd also pray.

Jeff: Well, that's important. And there's people watching...I think, that's happened more and more, Rudy, with believer's is that, people are realizing that; you know, it's not about quote-unquote born again; or 'clicks'; or this political group; or these people; or this or that. God says, You will know my people by the love they have one for another. And there are people who are in the Catholic faith that love God; and there are people in the Methodist and Pentacostal and Evangelical...all different denominations. There are people that really love the Lord. And some will say that, 'You can't be saved, unless you're in the Catholic church; or you can't be saved unless you're in this or in that.' But the Bible says that, All who call on the name of the Lord will be saved. And every concert that we do, and everything that we're seeing now, we're seeing people come out from all the various denominations. I think it's great that people go to the church; that they want to go, certainly on Sunday mornings and Wednesday night and any other night. I think at the same time, I love, part of the reason I love, doing concerts; and doing the outreach at the outdoor arenas, is because we see a whole bunch of people coming from all different backgrounds, come together. And they're not thinking about, you know, necessarily, denominations or this or that. When did you, I've never asked you this all the time I've known you; but, when did you pick up bass, and knew that you had a talent to write music and perform? I mean, you did that White Snake album. You've done a bunch of stuff.

Rudy: It was a whole gob of stuff. The music started when I was a kid, and I saw musicians on T.V. And I saw how skinny you had to be; and I said, 'That's what I want to do.' [Everybody laughing.]

Jeff: Really?

Rudy: Yeah, just about every musician in my era is about 40 something. They were around in the 60s ... But then, there were alot of chicks my age who went through the same thing. And then it became other things, and then I was always the bass player, whatever. And I was doing things at the time to be around the gigs, women. [Laughter] :) You know selling burgers or ....

Jeff: You sold burgers?

Rudy: I sold burgers.

Jeff: Did you really? In Miami?

Rudy: Well, when I was doing Quiet Riot. I used to ....

Jeff: So you were selling burgers, and then giggin' at night?

Rudy: Just like that. There was a place call Macnaturals.

Jeff: You started flipping burgers...

Rudy: Yeah, kind of like McDonalds. [All men laughing.] :) Yeah, I would say the biggest in the original Quiet Riot, the local air 1, the one with Randy's band; and I used to work at a place call Macnaturals.

Jeff: I didn't know Randy was in Quiet Riot. I never knew that.

Rudy: Yeah, yeah. [laughing and talking by all three men]

Jeff: You were...

Rudy: The boring one. :)

Jeff: Not boring, just, you were just, the one who stayed out of trouble. But, I did drag you out of a few things. :) [Laughing] Well, I'm not gonng go into it...I may have dragged you into it; but, I dragged out a few things. :) [laughing by all three men.]

Rudy: I used to put my hair in a ponytail [Jeff laughing]; and act like I was Ozzie Osbourne, you know? That was like ten years ago, almost like twenty years ago. [Laughing a lot by all three men] Whoa, boy. :) There'd be burgers for the kids before I would work on the show with Quiet Riot. So, I'd be like mop the floors, ....the dust, grab my guitar, and walk on the stage, and play. Rocking hard. But, you know what really helped me to get by was that I about 1978, 79....; and I said to God, 'Whatever you want me to do, my relationship with You is more important than being a rock star.

Jeff: Wow.

Rudy: And I was sleeping on the floor at the time in an..... apartment not to far from where I live now. And everytime I drive by it reminds me ....[Men laughing and joking]

Jeff: I was sleepin' on the floor, when I didn't need to. I had a bed upstairs. Passed out. :)

Rudy: And then my relationship with God became the most important thing. And I've been blessed with a great family; and my wife is wonderful.

Jeff: She is wonderful. She's a model..former model? I think she's still modeling some, isn't she?

Rudy: No, no. She models privately, only for me.

Jeff: Not any more. [Men laughing] Privately, whew! We'll have to talk after..:) It's really weird, we're down to four minutes. And I would tell people who are aspiring in music, or aspiring in business, or whatever. Seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you. You don't have to go out, and be the nastiest person to get ahead. The good people do finish first. And I wanna also point out that, Christians and people that love God are not perfect. They're not always right. We're goin' to make mistakes. You look into my life hard enough, scrutinize it enough; and I'm sure you could find things. And say, 'Who's this? What's this?' But the bottom line is that, we all make mistakes. We've all come short of the glory of God. But, thank God, we serve the risen Christ, whose mercy is from everlasting to everlasting. Catholic, Protestant, we all call on the Lord, people call on Jesus. And, I got married in a Catholic church by an archbishop I think it was...in Chattanooga. But you know what? Give you're hearts to the Lord Jesus Christ, call on Him. The Word of God says, All who call on the name of the Lord will be saved. So, just call on Him, open your heart. If you really want to do things powerful in this life, and in the life to come; you need to do it through the blood of Jesus. You really do. You're goin' to have a better time; you're goin' to have a better time overcomin'. Three guys here, that are sitting here on camera, we've all been through some things; we've all done a few drugs; we've all done a few things wrong.[chuckling...joking among three men] No, I want to tell you, we've all come short of the glory of God. But, we've given it up to Jesus.

Jeff: Goldy, the first time you were ever on camera - ten seconds before we were getting ready to go off the air, I said to you, 'Have you ever been sorry you gave your heart to Jesus?' And you looked up and went, 'Yeah.' Freaked everybody out. And you had... and we got off the air; and I said, 'What were you doing?' And you said, 'Well, I heard it wrong. I thought you said, Had you ever been sorry that you didn't give your heart to Jesus sooner.'

Goldy: Right.

Jeff: So, I'm going to ask you again [laughing] :) This is the official word, 'Have you ever been sorry that you gave your heart to Jesus?'

Goldy: No.

Jeff: No! Yes! You heard it hear first here on TBN the second time. You know what, there's a lot people in rock'n'roll who love God, contrary to popular belief. People say, 'All rock'n'rollers are crazy.' A lot of people love God, who are into rock. Isn't that right?

Rudy: Absolutely.

Jeff: God bless you; go with God; and serve Him all the times of your life.

My Deepest Love,
Jeff
